Dear Parents                                     Issue: 08                                 18th November 2015


The staff and Student Council  wish to thank you all most sincerely in co-operating  with our safety routines for all our children on entering and leaving the school during the day.


A very sincere thank you for returning ballot papers over the last few weeks. Special thanks to the six candidates Julian Drapiewski, Bernie Ryan, Johnny Ward, Anne Flannery, Katarzyna Galinska & Eithne Kennedy who volunteered to go forward for the final ballot. Congratulations to Anne Flannery and Bernie Ryan who received the highest votes. The new Board will take up office on December the 1st.


Congratulations to Kate who was awarded second place in the Connacht Dancing Championship. She has qualified to the World Championship which will be held in Glasgow.


The Green School Committee wish to thanks you for supporting our Monster Cash for Clobber”. The school will receive a cheque for €575.


The senior infants had an opportunity to experience a Christmas Wonderland Scene in Presentation College on Monday. A special thank you to Cathal Moore, Principal for his invitation.


Barry Flannery and Liam O Brien are visiting us today to view the Fire Engine and

to provide workshops for all the children on topics such as safety, smoke alarms, phone chargers, fire drills etc.


The next Parents Council meeting is scheduled for tonight Wednesday the 18th at 8pm. If you could not attend the AGM and would like to become a member, please come to the meeting. All parents are welcome to attend any meeting during the year.


The Parents Council have organised a Christmas Card Fundraiser. Each child drew a Christmas scene for their Christmas Cards. If you wish to order some packets, please complete details on the envelope, enclose money and return by tomorrow Thursday the 19th of November at A percentage of sales will go towards school funds.                                                                                                            P.T.O:-

The Galway Science & Technology Festival is currently taking place. The following activities have been organised:

  • Sixth class attended a workshop on Robotics in the Vocational School.
  • First, Second & Third class will be provided with Kinex workshops on Thursday the 19th of November

The Cumann na mBunscoil Cross Country Running Competition has been cancelled due to weather conditions and will be rescheduled for February.


Anti Bullying Week is taking place in schools this week nationally and locally.  The theme is for children to make noise about bullying whether it is happening to them or someone else. Anti Bullying Newsletter will follow tomorrow. Friday will be called Blue Friday where staff, children and parents are encouraged to wear all shades of blue as a statement of peace and solidarity in support of creating school community where people will “Make a Noise about Bullying.” Children may choose not to wear uniforms as long as they dress in blue.


Aga (mother of Maria) has offered to teach crotchet to fifth class on Fridays from 1.00 to 2.00pm. We would be very grateful if other parents/grandparents would be available for assistance.


Presentation Day will take place on Saturday this year. The staff and children wish all the Presentation Sisters in Athenry a very happy special feast day.


Second Class and parents are invited to the next Parish Do This In Memory Of Me Mass on Sunday November 22nd at 11.00a.m.


We are very grateful to parents who have donated items to equip our libraries and play corners.


Parent/Teacher meeting for parents of senior infants to 6th class will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 24th & 25th of November. All children will go home at 1.15pm on both days. Appointments were given to all of the children yesterday. Please check school bags.  If you are unable to attend on a particular day or time please notify the class teacher immediately.
