Dear Parents                                       Issue: 10                                    7th December 2015

We are participating in the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme where we will reflect on our past, celebrate our achievements over the last 100 years and re-imagine our future. Our first big event will be the presentation of a National Flag and a copy of the 1916 proclamation to our school community by members of the Defence Force. Our flag will be delivered by Sergeant Wayne Fitzgerald, Sergeant Eddie Madden (father of Kayla) and Sergeant Martin Whyte (father of Aoibhe) tomorrow, Tuesday, the 8th of December at 9am. Board members and Parents Council are invited to this memorable occasion. The following is the itinerary:

  • Band music.
  • Background to the Proclamation.
  • Diversity committee will read paragraph four.
  • Discussion on message.
  • Student Council will recite their own proclamation and a poem “The Mother” by Padraig Pearse.
  • Discussion on flag and respect for flag.
  • The eldest girl Nicola Sarna and youngest boy Krzystof Drozda will receive the flag and the proclamation for the school.
  • Senior classes will sing Amhrán na bhFiann.
  • Band music.

There will be another Cash for Clobber collection on Tuesday, the 8th of December as many bags arrived in the school after the last early collection. If you have any other unwanted items for recycling please forward by the above date.

Tomorrow is a Holy Day; therefore the children from 2nd up to 6th class will attend Mass at 11am.

You are invited to hear the Medieval Town Band tomorrow Tuesday, the 8th of December at 1.45pm. The Parents Council will provide refreshments for the children in the band.

The Parent’s Council would very much appreciate if parents would like to donate items or vouchers for the raffle, which can be forwarded to the office. Sincere thank you for all spot prizes received to date. We would very much appreciate your support in making this a successful event. Please see details below:

The Board of Management has introduced a Voluntary Contribution for each family as a result of reduced funding towards the running costs of the school. The Board is seeking a contribution of €30 per child or €50 per family. We would be very grateful for your donation.
