Dear Parents                                       Issue: 09                                    30th November 2015

Kate and the senior infants had an opportunity to experience a Christmas Wonderland Scene in Presentation College on Monday. Some of the children have featured on a video clip which is available for viewing on YouTube entitled “Perfect Surprise”.

All classes have been busy making Christmas decorations and wishes under the guidance of Mrs. Monson and her class for Christmas trees located around Athenry. Make sure to look out for their wonderful work when the Athenry Christmas lights are turned on.

The four senior classes will participate in a musical education programme called Peace Proms this year. This project is a Choral Education Programme devised by the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland. Peace Proms aims to entertain, educate and engage children in music and to enrich their lives through exceptional musical experience and performance. Our pupils will perform their repertoire with other primary schools in Galway in NUI Galway on Saturday, the 30th of January at 8pm. All classes will attend a rehearsal tomorrow in Leisureland from 12:30 – 2pm. Children can be collected at 3pm.

Fifth & Sixth class will attend the Musical Singing in the Rain in the Presentation College on Thursday, the 3rd of December at a cost of €3 per person.

The Lighting of the Christmas Tree will take place this Friday, the 4th of December, at 6.30pm at the Square. The Medieval Town Band has been invited once again to perform at the ceremony.  The children are putting a lot of hard work into this performance and we would be very grateful if you would support us by being present on this occasion.

All band members (children from 2nd up to 6th class) are requested:-

  • To arrive in school at 6:00pm
  • To wear their full school uniform, navy tights and dark coloured shoes or boots
  • To wear extra layers under the school uniform.
  • To wear their hair in plaits, if possible.
  • To wear Santa Claus hats or reindeer hair bands (optional).
  • Children will be supplied with band sweaters. Raincoats will be provided if necessary.
  • Children can be collected from the school at 7:15pm.

Sixth Class and parents are invited to the next Parish Confirmation Mass on Sunday December 6th at 11.00a.m.

We are participating in the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme where we will reflect on our past, celebrate our achievements over the last 100 years and re-imagine our future. Our first big event will be the presentation of a National Flag and a copy of the 1916 proclamation to our school community by members of the Defence Force. Our flag will be delivered by Sergeant Wayne Fitzgerald, Sergeant Eddie Madden (father of Kayla) and Sergeant Martin Whyte (father of Aoibhe) on Tuesday, the 8th of December at 9am. Board members and Parents Council are invited to this memorable occasion.

There will be another Cash for Clobber collection on Tuesday, the 8th of December as many bags arrived in the school after the last early collection. If you have any other unwanted items for recycling please forward by the above date.

The Parents’ Council are organising a Monster Raffle. The raffle is scheduled to take place at 11am on Friday, the 18th of December in our school hall. There will many prizes. Fundraising cards are attached. The Parent’s Council would very much appreciate if parents would like to donate items or vouchers for the raffle, which can be forwarded to the office.
