Dear Parents Issue: 06 15th October 2015
A very sincere thank you to all parents who were present at the Parents Council AGM last night and to those who sent their apologies. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, the 11th of November at 8pm. If you could not attend the AGM and would like to become a member, please come to the meeting. All parents are welcome to attend any meeting during the year.
Mrs. Greally’s 4th class will attend a Puppet Making Workshop in the Library today at the kind invitation of Imelda Hussey, Librarian Co-ordinator.
The Executive Producer Sheila Meaney of The Voice of Ireland Competition has invited 6th class to the first blind auditions in the Helix tomorrow Friday, the 16th of October. This programme will be televised after Christmas. This is the first time where a class of children are in attendance. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the girls to be part of a live audience, to experience TV behind the scenes and to meet the celebrity judges Cian Egan, Rachel Stephens, Bressie and Una Foden. A sincere thanks to the Parents Council who are financing the bus. Children will depart at 8.30am and arrive back at 8pm approximately. Children will be collected from the bus.
We wish the following girls the very best of luck in the Connacht Finals Athletic Association Irish Primary Schools Cross Country Championship in Leitrim Gaels on Saturday, the 17th of October at 1pm; Leonore, Kayla, Abigail, Ciara, Rachel and Maeve. Special thanks to Mr Wallace who coaches children for athletic events.
We wish Kate from 5th class the very best of luck as she has qualified to represent Connacht in the Great British National Championship which will take place this Sunday in England.
Parents and 6th class girls who will be making their Confirmation are invited to attend their first Special Mass this Sunday, the 18th of October at 7.30pm.
Mr. Wallace and Mrs. Hallissey will select 2 teams to participate in the Athenry Library Quiz next Thursday, the 22nd of October.
The Green School Committee wish to inform parents & children that our first Park & Stride Day will take place on Thursday the 22nd of October from the car park beside Kenny Park at 8.50am. Children are encouraged to wear their high-visibility vests. Staff will be present at the venue from 8.30am. If for any reason you cannot drop off your child at Kenny Park, the doors of the school will be open at the normal time.
Children may come to school on Friday week, the 23rd of October dressed in Halloween costumes or in their ordinary clothes.
Children will have no school from Monday to Friday, the 26th to the 30th of October due to Mid Term Break.
Information Open Nights for parents and sixth class girls enrolling in second level education:
- Presentation College on Tuesday, the 20th of October at 7.30pm.
- Colaiste an Eachreidh on Wednesday, the 21st October at 7.30pm.
The Green School Committee are planning a “Monster Cash for Clobber” for the 11th of November. They are requesting all families to do a big Tidy Up during the Halloween break. If you have any of the following unwanted items, please put them in refuse bags – Good Quality Clothing, Shoes, Belts, Towels, Curtains, Bed linen, Handbags, etc. No duvets pillows or soiled items will be accepted. The school will receive €4 for each bag.
A new Board of Management will be appointed in our school as of from the 1st of December. Two Parent Representatives will need to be appointed. A letter indicating parents and children according to Enrolment Form will be circulated shortly in order for parents to vote. If you do not want your name to be included, please inform the secretary immediately. A very sincere thank you to Michelle Kenny and Bernie Ryan who have served as parent representatives on our Board of Management for the last four year.
The staff and I wish to equip and develop our play corners. If parents or friends wish to kindly donate any items to the school such as Lego, Duplo, toys, books, educational games, construction toys, clothes for dressing up, items for imaginative play, etc, we would be most grateful.
The staff welcome support from parents with the education of our children. If you have any skills that you wish to offer the school, e.g. Information Technology, Sport, Art, Music, Dance, Crochet, Embroidery, Sewing, Cooking, Baking, etc. Please contact Principal.
Lighting of Christmas Tree will take place on Friday, December 4th at 7pm.
First Holy Communion has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 21st 2016 at 12.30pm.
