Dear Parents                                                    Issue: 14                                                          14th January 2015

 

A very sincere thank you for supporting our Christmas Concerts and Raffles. We are delighted to inform you that we have raised €3,287.52 on door tickets and €1,378.32 on raffles.

 

We are still awaiting ten Hallelujah Choir T-shirts to be returned from the three senior classes so that they can be re-used for future choral events.

 

The Student Council organised a little fundraiser with the assistance of a publisher.  They created a calendar from January to December 2015 with a photo of each of the twelve classes to coincide with the months of the year. There are still a number of calendars available at the office at a cost of €5.

 

The staff of Scoil Chroí Naofa consider punctuality to be of paramount importance. Please ensure that your child is in school by 8.50am to avoid constant disruption to morning prayers and to the beginning of the school day for teachers. There were a significant number of children coming in late regularly last term.

 

The staff have commenced implementing the six week Literacy Lift Off Programme in Mrs. Burke’s class.  This programme commences at 8.50am.  These children do not line up for assembly. Please ensure your child is on time. Every child is bringing home a new book each night and parents are asked to read this book with their child.

 

Ms. Tyrrell’s Senior Infant Class has commenced a three week Whole Class Intervention Programme entitled Maths Blast next week. During these weeks your child will get to know numbers, play number games, handle maths equipment and become more comfortable when doing maths.

 

Mr. Wallace and Mrs. Hallissey are coaching children for Table Quiz competitions. These sessions will take place on Wednesdays from 2.30 – 3.30pm, starting today.

 

All parents are invited to attend our Parent’s Council Meeting which will take place tonight Wednesday, the 14th of January at 8.30pm.  Please enter through the main front entrance and proceed upstairs to room 16.

 

 

Children from 5th & 6th class are invited to attend the Vocational School Musical entitled Back to the 80s tomorrow Thursday, the 15th of January at a cost of €3 per pupil.

 

Congratulations to Eva and Abigail who were among the prize winners of the Galway Advertiser Christmas Art Competition. They will receive their reward tomorrow, Thursday, the 15th of January at 4.30pm in the city library.

 

Presentation College Assessment Tests will take place this Saturday, the 17th of January at 9.30am – 11.30am. Parents are requested to attend for a talk at 10 am.

 

The next Communion Parish Programme Mass entitled Do This in Memory Of Me will take place this Sunday, the 18th of January at 11am.

 

Darren Collins from Monivea Rugby Club will coach Rugby to sixth class girls for the next three weeks commencing this Monday, the 19th of January at 12.30pm.

 

The next session of the You Shall Be My Witness Confirmation Programme will take place in the Vocational School Hall at 8pm this Monday, the 19th of January.

 

Extra Curricular Activities

  • Sheridan has cancelled guitar lessons this term due to insufficient numbers.
  • Monaghan will commence a Dance & Yoga Club to children from 2nd to 4th class. Course will commence on Monday the 19th of January from 2.30 – 3.30pm. It will run for 6 weeks at a cost of €18.
  • Alani will be unable to take Art Attack Class next Tuesday, the 20th of January due to Parent/Teacher Meetings. Next session will take place on Tuesday the 27th of January from 2.30 – 3.30pm in her classroom.

 

Margaret Martin has been coaching the girls in 6th class for the Sister de Lourdes Debating Competition 2015 which will take place in the Oranmore Library this Tuesday, the 20th of January. The following team have been selected; Rebecca, Amy, Christabel, Giovani, Lucja and Amy. Three of the girls will participate in the first round against St. James’s National School, Bushypark. The motion for debate is “Every child should have a mobile phone”. Our team is opposing the motion.

 

Parent/Teacher meetings will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 20th & 21st of January. All children will go home at 1.15pm on both days. If you need assistance in translations for meetings, please bring a friend. If you are unable to attend on a particular day or time please notify the class teacher immediately. Please check your children bags for appointments.

 

Sixth class girls who are making their Confirmation and their parents are invited to a Service of Light in the Church next Wednesday, the 21st of January at 7.30pm.

 

Mr. Wallace will select four teams for the Kilchreest National School Table Quiz which will take place in the Meadow Court Hotel on Thursday week, the 22nd of January at 7.15pm.

 

Catholic Schools Week is being celebrated nationally from Sunday, the 25th to Saturday the 31st of January. Its purpose is to highlight and celebrate the wonderful contribution that the Catholic School makes to local communities and to society in general. We would like to give you advance notice that Grandparents are invited to visit the school on Grandparents Day which will take place on Wednesday the 28th of January at 10.45am. They will visit their grandchildren’s classrooms and afterwards refreshments will be provided in the school hall.  We want to honour and celebrate grandparents for the important part they play in the community and most significantly in the life of their grandchildren.

 

The Parents Council are organising a Table Quiz in Dowling’s Bar at 8pm on Friday, the 30th of January. The proceeds of the Quiz will go towards funding the activities of the children in our school. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Those taking part are requested to put together a table of four. The cost per table is €40.

 

We advise parents and children to keep a regular eye on our new redesigned website at www.scoilchroinaofaathenry.ie for regular updates on what is happening in our school.  The website includes many features such as our school diary over the next few weeks, recent school newsletters & photos, blogging from various classes, a translation feature to other languages etc.

 

Dates for Diary

  • Sixth class Confirmation Retreat will take place on Thursday, the 5th of February in the Pastoral Centre presented by the Net Team.
  • The Credit Union Table Quiz will take place on Sunday, the 1st of February at 2pm.
  • Book Fair will take place in the school from the 9th to the 13th of February.
