Dear Parents                                       Issue: 07                                                              November 10th 2015

Congratulations to Ailbhe and Zofia who were prize winner in the Library Halloween Art Competition.

Thank you for replying to our postal ballot for the election of two Parent Representatives for the new Board of Management which comes into effect next month. The following parents have received the highest number of votes and have agreed to put their names forward for the next ballot; Fathers’ Panel: (Julian Drapiewski, Bernie Ryan & Johnny Ward). Mothers’ Panel: (Anne Flannery, Katarzyna Galinska & Eithne Kennedy).  Each parent may make one nomination from the mothers’ panel and one nomination from the fathers’ panel. Please find attached Ballot papers which must be returned to the school by Friday, the 13th of November. Public counting of the votes will take place in the staff room on Friday at 12.45pm.

The Dentist will visit 2nd and 6th class tomorrow, Wednesday the 11th of November to chart and check their teeth. Please ensure you have completed and returned your child’s form.

The Green School Committee wish to remind you about our “Monster Cash for Clobber” for tomorrow the 11th of November.  If you have any of the following unwanted items, please put them in refuse bags and send them into the school –  Good Quality Clothing, Shoes, Belts, Towels, Curtains, Bed linen, Handbags, etc. No duvets pillows or soiled items will be accepted. The school will receive €4 for each bag.

Mr Wallace will select athletes to participate in the Cumann na mBunscoil Cross Country Running Competition in Renmore this Thursday the 12th of November at 12pm.

The Parents Council have organised a Christmas Card Fundraiser. Each child drew a Christmas scene for their Christmas Cards this year. The cards were sent home yesterday for you to view. If you wish to order some packets, please complete details on the envelope and enclose money. Return to school by this Friday, the 13th of November. A percentage of sales goes towards school funds.

Anti Bullying Week will take place from the 16th to the 20th of November. The theme/idea is for children to make noise about bullying whether it is happening to them or someone else. Morning assembly will focus on this theme and the staff will teach many interesting lessons on this topic.

The Galway Science & Technology Festival is taking place over the next two weeks which is coinciding with National Science Week. The following activities have been organised for our school:

  • Teachers will make a special effort in teaching interesting science lessons and conducting exciting experiments
  • Sixth class will attend a workshop on Robotics in the Vocational School on Tuesday the 17th of November from 11.30 – 1.00p.m.
  • First, Second & Third class will be provided with Kinex workshops on Thursday the 19th of November

The next Parents Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday week the 18th at 8pm. If you could not attend the AGM and would like to become a member, please come to the meeting. All parents are welcome to attend any meeting during the year.

The staff and I wish to equip and develop our play corners. If parents or friends wish to kindly donate any items to the school such as Lego, Duplo, toys, books, educational games, construction toys, clothes for dressing up, items for imaginative play, etc, we would be most grateful.

The staff welcome support from parents with the education of our children. If you have any skills that you wish to offer the school, e.g. Information Technology, Sport, Art, Music, Dance, Crochet, Embroidery, Sewing, Cooking, Baking, etc, please make contact with us.  Aga Sewerynska (mother of Maria) has offered to teach crotchet to fifth class on Fridays from 1.00 to 2.00pm. We would be very grateful if other parents would be available for assistance.

In the interest of safety and due to 344 children entering and leaving the school we seek your cooperation with the following:

  1. Children are not allowed to enter the school car park in the morning.
  1. Parents and children coming from the Tuam Road and Monivea Road are requested to enter and leave the school grounds through the 5 stiles (gaps) in the wall beside the prefab, following the route set out by the green fence.
  2. Parents and children coming from the Church car park are requested to enter and leave the school grounds through the gate in the top yard, which is open daily to discourage children entering the school car park.
  3. Children from 1st to 6th class will leave the school grounds using the same morning route.
  4. The Student Council will assist the staff and children with the following Safe Routine for 150 children leaving at 1.30pm.
  5. Parents of Junior Infants are requested to enter the school through the main door near the Principal’s office where they will queue outside their children’s classroom while 75 senior infant children line up in the hall. Parents may then proceed to leave through the front doors.
  6. Parents of Senior Infants are requested to wait in the yard, shelter or yard corridors until all the senior infants have assembled in the hall. Teachers will then open the hall doors at 1.30pm. Children are instructed that they will put up their hands when they see the person collecting them. They are not allowed to leave until the teacher gives them permission. Parents may then proceed to exit via the front or yard doors.
  7. There is major concern about the number of adults and children going in and out the main campus gate where there is a barrier in operation which comes down automatically when there is no car en route. This is dangerous and we urge our school community not to exit under this barrier.
  8. No cars are allowed onto school grounds except in exceptional circumstances agreed with principal. All cars should be parked outside the school grounds in the car parks outside the school gates and at the Church.

Your patience and co-operation is needed to ensure the safety of all the children in our care. Please ensure this message is passed on to the person bringing your child to and from school.

Parent/Teacher meeting for parents of senior infants to 6th class will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 24th & 25th of November. All children will go home at 1.15pm on both days. If you are unable to attend on a particular day or time please notify the class teacher immediately. You will be notified of appointments shortly.

Lighting of Christmas Tree will take place on Friday, December 4th at 7pm.

Yours sincerely________________________Teresa Neylon, Principal
