The Green School Committee are encouraging all children to wear Hi-Vis Vests to and from school during the short days from now on. The junior infant classes received Hi-Vis Vests today. Children from the remainder of the classes received Hi-Vis Vests over the years. If you cannot locate your vest they are available for purchasing at a nominal cost. Please ensure your child has their name clearly marked on them.
Congratulations to the following children who have been awarded prizes for making a special effort to speak Irish during the month of September; Nathan, Eoin, Claudio, Adam, Maria, Dominic, Natalia, Megan, Sophie, Amy, Oliwia and all the children from 6th class.
Mr. McDonald is the co-ordinator of the Active School Committee. We are participating in the Super Troopers Programme again this year which is designed to encourage children to be active for 60 minutes on a daily basis. The children have been provided with homework activity journals. These are filled with fantastic fun activities to do at home designed to help pupils increase agility, strength, balance and overall activity levels along with fortnightly healthy lifestyle tips/reflection activities. Please encourage your child to complete the physical activity homework on a daily basis.
Band practice commenced today. If your child has been selected to play the Bell Lyre, Melodica or Accordion, a rental fee of €25 is required. €10 will be refunded at the end of the year if the instruments are returned in good condition.
The school camogie team will participate in the INTO Mini 7s Competition at Coolarne Pitch, tomorrow, Thursday, the 8th of October at 10.30am.
Owen Fahy from the Galway GAA Coaching Committee will continue to assist the staff in coaching camogie to various classes every Friday throughout the year.
Parents and children who are making their First Holy Communion are invited to the Do This in Memory Programme Enrolment Mass on Sunday, the 11th of October at 11am.
Mrs. Murray will provide Guitar Lessons to 4th 5th & 6th class children who already commenced guitar lessons with Ms. Sheridan on Tuesdays from 2.30 – 3.30pm for 6 weeks at a cost of €18 commencing next Tuesday, the 13th of October.
Second class children will commence Tin Whistle this day week on Wednesday, the 14th of October. Tin Whistles in the key of C are available at the office at a cost of €6.50.
The Parents Council wish to invite you to attend the Annual General Meeting for all Parents which will take place this day week, Wednesday, 14th of October at 8.00pm in the new extension. The following is the Agenda: Minutes of the AGM 2014, Parents Council Report, Treasurers’ Report, Principal’s Report, Parent’s Council 2015 & AOB.
Mrs. Greally’s 4th class will attend a Puppet Making Workshop in the Library on Thursday, the 15th of October at 1pm at the kind invitation of Imelda Hussey, Librarian Co-ordinator.
The Executive Producer Sheila Meaney of The Voice of Ireland Competition has invited 6th class to the first blind auditions in the Helix on Friday week the 16th of October. This programme will be televised after Christmas. This is the first time where a class of children are in attendance. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the girls to be part of a live audience, to experience TV behind the scenes and to meet the celebrity judges Cian Egan, Rachel Stephens, Bressie and Una Foden. A sincere thanks to the Parents Council who are financing the bus.
We wish the following girls the very best of luck in the Connacht Finals Athletic Association Irish Primary Schools Cross Country Championship in Leitrim Gaels on Saturday, the 17th of October at 1pm; Leonore, Kayla, Abigail, Ciara, Rachel and Maeve. Special thanks to Mr Wallace who coaches children for athletic events.
Parents and 6th class girls who will be making their Confirmation are invited to attend their first Special Mass on Sunday, the 18th of October at 7.30pm.
Ms. Alani will provide Art Club to 1st & 2nd class on Mondays commencing Monday, the 19th of October from 2.30 – 3.30pm for 6 weeks at a cost of €30. Limited places available.

- Vocational School on Wednesday, the 14th October at 7.30pm
- Presentation College on Tuesday, the 20th of October at 7.30pm.
- Colaiste an Eachreidh on Wednesday, the 21st October at 7.30pm.
The Green School Committee are planning a “Monster Cash for Clobber” for the 11th of November. They are requesting all families to do a big Tidy Up during the Halloween break. If you have any of the following unwanted items, please put them in refuse bags – Good Quality Clothing, Shoes, Belts, Towels, Curtains, Bed linen, Handbags, etc. No duvets pillows or soiled items will be accepted. The school will receive €4 for each bag.
Parent Teacher Meetings for Senior Infants up to 6th class will take place on the 24th & 25th of November. Parent Teacher Meetings for Junior Infants will take place on Wednesday & Thursday the 27th & 28th of January.
