The staff and I
hope you and your families had a very happy & peaceful Christmas. We

Council Monster Raffle took place before Christmas. Thank you so much
to everyone who bought lines for the raffle. The sum of €3,678 was raised and this money will be used to fund buses,
workshops and treats for the children over the course of the year. We are very grateful to all the people who
donated prizes for our raffle (see list below). The event would not have been
such a success without your generosity.

This year the Christmas concerts took place during the school day. Highlights
from each of the concerts are available to view on the school YouTube channel.
Staff Meeting Term 2:
There will be a half day on Thursday January 30th to
facilitate a staff meeting. All children will go home at 1.15pm.
Literacy Lift Off:
The Literacy Lift Off intensive Reading and Writing programme will
commence in Miss Dolan’s 1st class next week. Every child will bring
home a new book each night (including Friday) and parents are asked to read
this book with their child.

Welfare Officer (E.W.O) has organised another attendance clinic for Feb 5th.
Parents of pupils who have missed 10 or more days will be asked to attend.
Please ensure your child has good attendance throughout the year.
Internet Safety Talk:
Safety talk has been arranged for Thursday January 16th.
It will be delivered to all the children from 1st class up to 6th
class during the school day. It will be followed up with a Parent session that
evening from 7pm to 8.30pm, here in the school. Parents are strongly encouraged
to attend this evening session. The facilitator of the sessions is Jeremy
Pagden, who comes very highly recommended.

Night for parents of children due to start school in September 2020
will take place on Thursday February 6th at 8pm in the school hall.
Enrolment Forms will be handed out to parents at the open night. Completed
forms should then be returned to the school by Friday February 21st.
John Connolly, Principal of the Boys National School will speak to
the boys from 1st class tomorrow. He will give the boys their
Enrolment forms for the Boys National School. Please complete the
forms and return them to the Boys National School as soon as possible.
Transition Assessment Tests for 6th
class pupils will take place in the Presentation College on Saturday, January
18th from 9.30 – 11.30am. Pupils are
allowed to bring calculators.
Preparation Mass will take place on Sunday, January 26th at
Service of Light for Confirmation
children on Thursday, January 30th at 7pm.
Reconciliation for Confirmation girls on Friday
February 14th from 6-9pm.
Confirmation for 6th class girls
will take place on Saturday, February 15th at 2.30pm.
All of these
services will take place in Athenry church.
staff of Scoil Chroí Naofa consider punctuality to be of paramount importance.
Please ensure that your child is in school by 8.50am (at the latest) to avoid
constant disruption to morning prayers and to the beginning of the school day
for teachers. Roll call is taken in the early morning, every day.
School Uniform: Your co-operation to ensure that your child wears the
full school uniform every day is most appreciated. Please remember to label
your child’s uniform and all their belongings.
Head Lice: An incident of head lice has been reported in Miss
Dolan’s 1st class and also in Miss Tyrrell’s Junior Infants class.
Please check your child’s hair regularly and treat immediately, if necessary.
Long hair should be tied back.
