Dear Parents                                        Issue: 06                                                                     November 22nd 2019

Wednesday November 27th:

  • There will be NO SCHOOL on Wednesday of next week (November 27th). This is to facilitate staff attending an in-service training day on the new Primary Language Curriculum

New Board of Management:

Thank you sincerely to all parents who voted in the Board of Management election. Congratulations to all our new voluntary representatives. The new Board of Management for 2019 – 2023 is as follows:

  • Mr Bernie Ryan: Patron representative (Chairperson)
  • Fr Benny McHale: Patron Representative
  • Mr Fergal Naughton: Teacher Representative (Secretary)
  • Mrs Cathríona Cronin: Teacher Representative
  • Mrs Stefanie Moynihan: Community Representative
  • Mr Fergal Melia: Community Representative (Treasurer)
  • Mr Paul Fitzgerald: Parent Representative
  • Ms Joanne Melia Costello: Parent Representative

All the outgoing Board of Management members; Gerry Farrell, Margaret Seery, Anne Flannery and Julian Drapiewski are thanked and their contribution to Scoil Chroí Naofa is acknowledged.

A special mention must be given to Mr Gerry Farrell (our outgoing chairperson). Gerry has been involved with Scoil Chroí Naofa Boards of Management since 1991! His unwavering dedication and interest in our school over the years has seen it flourish and prosper. Scoil Chroí Naofa could not have grown to become the centre of educational excellence it is today, were it not for his long, consistent support and service.

Staff, pupils, parents and the community of Athenry owe him a huge debt of gratitude and we are all justifiably proud of the fabulous school Gerry’s long association has helped form. We wish himself, his very supportive wife and his family good health & happiness always.

  • Last week we celebrated Science week & you should check out the website & YouTube channel to get a glimpse of all the fun activities that the children got up to.
  • Thank you to Miss Tyrrell who arranged K’nex workshops for 1st, 2nd & 3rd classes. They were a great success and the children really enjoyed them.

  • Thanks to Maeve Mullins of Fun2Bfit who delivered Gymnastics workshops to 10 classes in the school. They were cardio-based workshops which covered both the Dance & Gymnastics strands of the PE curriculum. Maeve also provided resources to the teachers so that they can incorporate the exercises, games & circuits into their PE classes in the future.
