Wednesday November 27th:
- There will be NO SCHOOL on Wednesday of next week (November 27th).
This is to facilitate staff attending an in-service training day on the
new Primary Language Curriculum
New Board of Management:
Thank you sincerely to all parents who voted in the Board of Management
election. Congratulations to all our new voluntary representatives. The new
Board of Management for 2019 – 2023 is as follows:

All the outgoing Board of Management members; Gerry Farrell, Margaret
Seery, Anne Flannery and Julian Drapiewski are thanked and their contribution
to Scoil Chroí Naofa is acknowledged.
A special mention must be given to Mr Gerry Farrell (our outgoing
chairperson). Gerry has been involved with Scoil Chroí Naofa Boards of Management
since 1991! His unwavering dedication and interest in our school over the years
has seen it flourish and prosper. Scoil Chroí Naofa could not have grown to
become the centre of educational excellence it is today, were it not for his
long, consistent support and service.
Staff, pupils, parents and the community of Athenry owe him a huge debt
of gratitude and we are all justifiably proud of the fabulous school Gerry’s
long association has helped form. We wish himself, his very supportive wife and
his family good health & happiness always.

to get a glimpse of all the fun activities that the children got up to.
- Thank you to Miss Tyrrell who arranged K’nex
workshops for 1st, 2nd & 3rd
classes. They were a great success and the children really enjoyed them.
- The Galway Science & Technology
festival exhibition will take place on Sunday Nov 24th
at NUI Galway. There will be exhibits, demonstrations, workshops, talks
and amazing chemical experiments. You are invited to come along and make some
slime, visit bugs, dinosaurs and bumblebees, attend workshops on
chemistry, biology and physics and visit our teddy bear hospital, gaming
truck and coding exhibit. There will be rockets, drones, science busking

- Thanks to Maeve Mullins of Fun2Bfit who delivered
workshops to 10 classes in the school. They were cardio-based workshops
which covered both the Dance & Gymnastics strands of the PE
curriculum. Maeve also provided resources to the teachers so that they can
incorporate the exercises, games & circuits into their PE classes in

GAA Coaching Committee
will be assisting the staff in coaching camogie/hurling to Mr Hanley’s 1st
class every Friday between now & Christmas.
- Yesterday was Presentation day. All pupils &
staff in the school attended mass in the church, in honour of our
foundress Nano Nagle. This was also our start of year mass. The staff and
children wished all the Presentation Sisters in Athenry a very happy
special feast day. Well done to all the children for behaving so well in

Photos were distributed to the relevant classes today & yesterday. If you
wish to order photos, please complete order form and insert correct amount of
money into envelope provided and return to the school before Friday of next week November 29th.
The reason for the
short deadline, is to ensure that photos are back before the Christmas
This year the Christmas concerts will take place during the school day.

Highlights from each of the concerts will be recorded and shared on the

Parents are permitted to record the play, but please ensure it is for
personal use only.
All children should wear their full uniform, as usual. It is okay to
wear Christmas hats / hair bands, if desired.
- Tuesday Dec 17th: Junior Infants,
Senior Infants, 1st class & 2nd class
- Parents should assemble in the hall at the
designated start time and will be brought to the classroom when the
children are ready to perform.
- Each concert will take place in the classroom,
so be aware that space will be limited
- 9am – 10am: Miss Tyrrell Junior Infants &
Miss Feeney’s Jun/Sen Infants
- 10am – 11am: Mr Hanley 1st class and
Miss O’Byrne 1st / 2nd class
- 11am – 12pm: Mrs Comer Junior Infants & Mrs
Murray’s Senior Infants
- 12pm – 12.45pm: Ms Alani’s Senior Infants
- 12.45pm – 1.30pm: Miss Dolan’s 1st
- Wednesday Dec 18th: 3rd
class, 4th class, 5th class & 6th
- 9.30am – 10.15am: recital of Peace Proms songs
and Christmas carols will take place in the hall. This is for parents of
children in Mr McDonald’s, Mrs Hennessy’s, Mrs Greally’s, Miss Murray’s 5th
class and Mrs Monson’s classes.

Band & Lighting of Christmas Tree:
On Friday November 29th, the Athenry Christmas Lights will be
turned on at 7pm in the Square. The Medieval Town Band has been invited once again
to perform at the ceremony. The children
are putting a lot of hard work into this performance and we would be very
grateful if you would support us by being present on this occasion. All band members
(children from 2nd up to 6th class) are requested:-
arrive in school at 6:00pm (Gates & yard doors will be locked, so
please use one of the 3 front doors)
- To wear their full school uniform.
wear extra layers under their uniform.
bring their raincoat.
wear their hair in plaits, if possible.
wear Santa Claus hats or reindeer hair bands (optional).
will be supplied with band sweaters.

- Fifth and sixth class girls will be attending a
matinee performance of High School Musical in
Presentation College on December 5th (€3 per child)
- Mr McDonald’s 3rd class will travel to
Galway city on Friday December 6th to a “Fighting Words”
workshop. More details will follow closer to the time.
age-appropriate Internet Safety talk has
been arranged for Thursday January 16th. It will be delivered
to all the children from 1st class up to 6th class
during the school day. It will be followed up with a Parent session that
evening here in the school. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend this
evening session. The facilitator of the sessions is Jeremy Pagden who
comes very highly recommended.

NOTE: There will be no soccer club for 3rd & 4th
class on Wednesday November 27th as there is no school on this day.
