On behalf of the whole school community I would like to express our deepest sympathies to Maria Monaghan & her family on the loss of her Mom (Bridie Monaghan RIP). May she rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with Maria and her whole family at this very difficult time.

Attendance:

For the month of September there was a draw in the competition for “Class with the Best Attendance”! Congratulations to Miss Feeney’s Junior & Senior Infants class, as well as Mr Hanley’s 1st class.

Congratulations to the following pupils who all made a special effort to speak Irish for the month of September: Sadhbh Hoarty, James Lally, Cara Applegate, Bradley Farrell, Viktoria Kovacs, Ayla Mooney, Elaina Teulier, Sarah Conlon, Lauren Duddy, Daisy Hynes, Saoirse Gallagher, Christy Vijai and Ciara Murtagh.

Green School:

  • The Green school committee would like to thank everyone who participated in our “Green Day” last Thursday. It was a great success, with 86% of the pupils walking to school. Congratulations to Miss O’Byrne’s class who had the highest rate of participation (93%). Thanks also to everyone for taking extra care not to have any single-use-plastics in their lunch boxes that day and for being especially mindful of conserving energy!
  • We would also like to thank the representatives of “The Toughest Trek” campaign, who provided some of the pupils with green T-Shirts for the walk.
  • REMINDER: Cash for Clobber collection taking place tomorrow Tuesday October 22nd. The proceeds of this collection will be used by the Parents’ Council to fund buses, workshops, treats for different occasions etc.

The children will be provided with homework activity journals this week. These are filled with fantastic fun activities to do at home which are designed to help children to  increase agility, strength, balance and overall activity levels along with fortnightly healthy lifestyle tips & reflection activities. Please encourage your child to complete the physical activity homework on a daily basis

Author Visit:

On the 10th of October 1st class were treated to a reading session with English children’s author Alan Durant. Alan, whose books range from young children’s picture books to thrillers for teens, was in town for Galway’s new book festival for children “Book It!” and he featured as the festival’s writer-in-residence. He read “Quill Soup” and “Burger Boy” from his impressive collection of books.

Maths Week:

Maths week ran from October 12th – 20th. The theme for the week was “I use Maths”. Maths is not just something we do in our books at school, it’s something we do and use in our everyday lives. Some 5th class girls kicked off Maths Week at assembly on Monday last by talking about how they used their maths eyes and maths brains before they came to school that morning. To mark Maths week, each class in the school engaged in various fun and hands-on Maths activities such as Maths trails, Maths quizzes, Maths art, Maths puzzles and Beebots to name a few! A video complication of these activities will feature on our school YouTube Channel this week, so don’t forget to log on and check it out.
