Our School Community wish to heartily congratulate Ms Murray (Sports Connaught Co-ordinator) and the Special Olympics Connaught team (including our local athletes from the Skylark Centre: Bartley, Kevin & Tomasz).  The Special Olympics Ireland Games took place last weekend. All three athletes won All Ireland medals!

 

Congratulations to Mrs Greally’s and her  4th class who participated in the Bizworld School programme run by Bank of Ireland again this year. The girls were presented with certificates and a fun pack  in the Bank of Ireland tent, as part of the Enterprise Town Event in association with the Bia Lover festival on Sunday last.  The girls are presenting their active brain ideas to the whole school during Active School Week.

 

Well done to Remi Biernaczyk in Mr. Hanley’s class who was one of four prize winners in the Bia Lover Art Competition and was presented with a tablet.

 

Special thanks to all of you who donated bags for the Cash for Clobber for Collection.  We raised €345.

 

To date €910 has been collected for the “How long is Larry?” fundraiser. Tomorrow will be the final day. Thank you for all the loose change that has been donated. The Parents’ Council will give this money to the school to purchase 2 additional iPads.

 

Active School Week is in full swing this week. Mr. Mc Donald assisted by Mrs. Greally and  the Active School Committee have encouraged the whole school community to  Be active! Keep active! Stay active! The emphasis this year was on walking correctly (moving well & moving often). There were a wide variety of fun activities on offer every day:

  • Monster Walk with a Smile” from the car park beside Kenny Park.
  • SuperHero Training Workshops for Junior & Senior Infants”
  • Sports Day in Kenny Park.
  • Spike Ball Staff/Pupil challenge
  • Ultra Flex Dancing with Kim.
  • Wake Up Shake Up assemblies
  • Daily Mile (1.6km) each day for 15 mins.
  • Daily Active School Journal and or design a jersey for ASW.
  • Zumba with Sharon

 

 

 

The Students’ Council are holding their annual Bake Sale tomorrow Friday, June 22nd. There will be a selection of homemade treats available for children to buy as well as games to play. The Students’ Council would be very appreciative of donations towards their Bake Sale. If you would like to donate cakes, buns, bread or treats please send them to Room 16 on Friday morning. The proceeds will go towards Athenry Tidy Towns and Christmas Lights Committees.

 

Graduation Mass for the 6th class girls and the 1st class boys will take place on Monday June 25th at 11am.  The Board of Management, Parents Council and parents of 6th class girls and 1st class boys are invited to this special Mass. The staff wish all our graduates all the best in their new schools.

 

The Class Teachers from 1st to 6th will be available on Monday and Thursday afternoon to meet with any parent who wishes to discuss their child’s standardised test results. Please check in at the office on the appropriate day:

  • Monday June 25th45 to 2.30pm: Ms O’Byrne, Mrs Greally, Miss Murray
  • Thursday June 28th45 to 2.30pm: Ms Alani, Mr Byrne, Mrs Forde, Mr McDonald and Mrs Hennessy

 

Please forward a Stamped Self Addressed Envelope for your children’s end of year report and booklist 2018/19. The book list specifies who your child’s teacher will be next year. The Book Rental Scheme is available for some books on the Book List. If you wish to order books from our Book Rental Scheme there are two options:

  1. Enclose a list of the books required with the fee in a sealed envelope with your child’s name clearly marked. All of the orders will be collected and children will receive their books as soon as possible or,
  2. Parents are invited into the staffroom to rent their children’s books on Tuesday & Wednesday, June 26th & 27th from 12.30 – 2.30pm. Assistance required. Please text (087) 4038525 if you are available.

 

The school wish to purchase the following books for our Book Rental Scheme:

  • 6th Class: Abair Liom H €9.00
  • 6th Class: Friends in Faith – my confirmation year €5.00

Please write a note of permission in your child’s journal, confirming that it is okay for her to sell the books to the school.

 

Parents have been very generous in the past in donating uniforms. These uniforms are given to families who find the beginning of the year difficult.  If you wish to donate uniforms please forward them to the secretary’s office. Uniforms will be available for viewing in the staffroom on Wednesday, June 27th from 1.30 – 2.15pm.

 

Sixth class girls will be getting their holidays on Wednesday, June 27th at 2.30pm. The staff wish them a fond farewell with health and happiness always.

 

Parents’ Council Meeting is re-scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 27th instead of Tuesday at 8pm.

 

Ms Monaghan & Ms Tyrrell are holding a Summer Camp for Junior Infants to 2nd class children on the first week in July (Mon 2nd to Fri 6th). The Fun Camp will run from 10am – 2pm. Cost is €65 (or family discount of €60 per sibling). Forms have been distributed to the children. Teachers have given the children a Summer Camp Newsletter today. Please check your child’s bag.

 

Mrs Murray & Mr Hanley have postponed their Summer Camp for 3rd to 6th class due to insufficient numbers. Teachers have returned parents’ envelopes to the children today. Please check your child’s bag.

 

The Board of Management seek an annual contribution of €30 per child or €50 per family The Board wish to thank again those families who gave a Voluntary Contribution during the year. If you would like to contribute, we would be very grateful for your donation.

 

In accordance with  Section 18 of the Education Welfare Act 2000, if a pupil is absent for more than 20 days during the school year, the school authorities are obliged to inform the Education Welfare Board.  If your child has missed 20 days or more from Sept 1st 2017 to Jun 29th 2018  your child will be reported for the reasons noted.

 

Children will commence their Summer Holidays on Friday the 29th June at 11.45am.

 

The school will re-open on Thursday the 30th of August at 8.50 a.m.  Children in Junior Infant classes will go home at 12 o’clock for the first two weeks.

 

Final September Reminders

  • Recommend children from junior infants up to 1st class to purchase shoes with velcro.
  • Runners required for Physical Education lessons.
  • Old large shirts for Visual Art lessons.
  • Purchase HB Faber Castell pencils for children from senior infants up to 6th
