Green School Committee:

The Green School committee would like to thank all pupils and parents who made such a wonderful effort to walk / cycle / scoot to school during the month of May. Participation was fantastic!! Some prizes were given out today as a special reward. Keep up the good habits for the rest of the school year. Well done everyone!

School Tours / Fun Days:

This year School Tours for each class will be local to Athenry i.e. there will be no bus trips. Athenry has a wealth of heritage for the children to enjoy and learn from. We are truly blessed to have all this within walking distance of our school. Often we overlook the wealth of heritage that is on our doorstep so this year every class in the school will get the opportunity to experience what Athenry has to offer. In so doing we can give back to our community and support our local facilities in these very challenging times.

There will be fun activities for the children to take part in and it will be led by the 6th class girls.

Standardised Tests have been carried out in all the relevant classes. Results will be given as a STEN score. Please find attached an explanation sheet giving you further information on these scores. Your child’s results will be noted on their End of Year school report which will be available on Aladdin towards the end of June.

Book Lists:

Book lists for the next school year will be emailed to all parents in the coming weeks. Details of the book rental scheme will be included.

School Summer Programme:

We are delighted to announce that the school will be holding a 3 week School Summer Programme from July 5th to 23rd. Based on the size of our school we are allowed to cater for 24 children who meet a specific criteria. Mr Hanley & Mrs McGrath will run the programme and will be assisted by our SNAs. Children who meet the criteria for the programme have been contacted.

New Enrolments 2021 / 2022:

  • Children due to start in Junior Infants on Wednesday September 1st are invited into the school for an hour (8.50am to 9.50am) on Tuesday August 31st. There will be no other classes in the building at the time. This will give the children a chance to see their classroom, meet their teacher and their new classmates.
  • Children who are joining other classes in September will also be welcome to call into the school during this time on the same day to meet the principal and take a look at the school.

Infection Prevention:

  • Covid is still in our community so I implore you to please still continue to keep your guard up. We all need to remember the public health guidelines: social distancing, good cough & sneeze etiquette, hand washing, sanitising and good ventilation.
  • Carbon dioxide monitors: the department has promised to provide schools with a number of portable CO2 monitors. They will be used to provide a useful general indication that areas / rooms may not be adequately ventilated and can enable occupants to become familiar with the impact of activities, outdoor weather and window openings on levels of good ventilation within a room.
