Confession / First Communion / Confirmation:
Fr Benny has
confirmed that the sacraments of Communion / Confirmation will both take place
in early July:
will take place on the evening of Friday July 2nd
Communion will take place on Sunday July 4th from 12pm (similar
to last year)
Confession is likely to take place in late June
We will forward
the exact details of each of the sacrament celebrations, once we know them.
Thank you all so

Judging by all the books that were delivered to the school over the past week;
it was a great success!!

- Proofs of all
the photos taken last week have been given out to the children this week.
- You may place
your order with County Photos directly and pay by card (just follow the
instructions included with the proofs).
- If you wish
to pay by cash, you may return your order form and the cash in the white
envelope and return it to the school (remember
to include the order form!)
- The deadline
for all orders is Wednesday June
9th. This is to ensure that the orders can be processed
before the end of the school year.
- Any orders
after this deadline will incur an additional charge, as the photos will
have to be posted to your home address.

committee would like to thank all pupils and parents who made such a wonderful
effort to walk / cycle / scoot to school during the month of May. Participation
was fantastic!! Some prizes were given out today as a special reward. Keep up
the good habits for the rest of the school year. Well done everyone!
Tours / Fun Days:
This year School
Tours for each class will be local to Athenry i.e. there will be no bus trips.
Athenry has a wealth of heritage for the children to enjoy and learn from. We
are truly blessed to have all this within walking distance of our school. Often
we overlook the wealth of heritage that is on our doorstep so this year every
class in the school will get the opportunity to experience what Athenry has to
offer. In so doing we can give back to our community and support our local
facilities in these very challenging times.

We are delighted
to say that (weather permitting) we will be holding our annual sports day in
Kenny Park during the week of June 21st to 25th. We will
check the weather outlook closer to the time and pick which day is promised to
be dry! The day will be organised in line with the public health guidelines. There
will be fun activities for the children to take part in and it will be led by
the 6th class girls.

will however be videoing the celebrations and the videos will be posted to the
school YouTube channel for parents to view:

This will be the girls’ last day
for 1st class boys will take place on Tuesday June 29th.
Standardised Tests have been carried out in all the relevant classes.
Results will be given as a STEN score. Please find attached an explanation
sheet giving you further information on these scores. Your child’s results will
be noted on their End of Year school report which will be available on Aladdin
towards the end of June.
Book lists for the
next school year will be emailed to all parents in the coming weeks. Details of
the book rental scheme will be included.
School Summer Programme:
We are delighted to announce that the school will be holding a 3 week
School Summer Programme from July 5th to 23rd. Based on
the size of our school we are allowed to cater for 24 children who meet a
specific criteria. Mr Hanley & Mrs McGrath will run the programme and will
be assisted by our SNAs. Children who meet the criteria for the programme have
New Enrolments 2021 / 2022:
- Children due to start in Junior Infants on Wednesday
September 1st are invited into the school for an hour (8.50am
to 9.50am) on Tuesday August 31st.
There will be no other classes in the building at the time. This will give
the children a chance to see their classroom, meet their teacher and their

September will also be welcome to call into the school during this time on
the same day to meet the principal and take a look at the school.
- Covid is still in our community so I implore you
to please still continue to keep your guard up. We all need to remember
the public health guidelines: social distancing, good cough & sneeze
etiquette, hand washing, sanitising and good ventilation.
- Carbon dioxide monitors: the department has
promised to provide schools with a number of portable CO2 monitors. They
will be used to provide a useful general indication that areas / rooms may
not be adequately ventilated and can enable occupants to become familiar
with the impact of activities, outdoor weather and window openings on
levels of good ventilation within a room.
