Peace Proms:

Congratulations to the girls in 5th & 6th classes who participated in the Peace Proms Choir Concert in the Kingfisher hall NUIG on Sunday night. The children gave an outstanding performance and enjoyed the experience of singing with a full orchestra. A very sincere thank you again to the class teachers, Mrs Monson, Miss Murray & Mrs Greally for training the girls for this special event.

Parents Council:

  • Next Parents’ Council meeting is tomorrow night (Tues Jan 28th) at 8pm here in the school.

Grandparents Day:

Catholic Schools’ Week is being celebrated nationally from Sunday, January 26th to Saturday February 1st. The theme this year is “Living in Harmony with God’s creation”. Grandparents are invited to visit the school on Grandparents’ Day,Wednesday January 29th from 10.45am -12.00pm. They will visit their grandchildren’s classrooms and afterwards refreshments will be provided in the hall.  We want to honour and celebrate grandparents for the important part they play in the community and most significantly in the lives of their grandchildren.

Staff Meeting Term 2:

  • There will be a half day on Thursday January 30th to facilitate a staff meeting. All children will go home at 1.15pm.

School Amalgamation Update:

  • The Patron of our school (Archbishop Michael Neary) has appointed a Manager (Mr Malachy Molloy) to look into the proposed amalgamation of Scoil Chroí Naofa and Athenry Boys National School.
  • A steering committee has been formed made up of 8 representatives from each school; 2 members of Board of Management, 2 Staff representatives, 2 Parents Council representatives, School Principal and School Deputy Principal.
  • The 8 Scoil Chroí Naofa representatives on this committee are: Mr Bernie Ryan, Mr Fergal Melia, Mrs Elaine Monson, Miss Veronica Murray, Mrs Rachel Moore, Mrs Eithne Kennedy, Mr Fergal Naughton and Mrs Cathríona Cronin.
  • The committee met for the first time on Wednesday of last week
  • Mr Molloy has agreed to go back to the Department of Education on our behalf to seek clarification on a number of points
  • We will keep you informed of any developments

Literacy Lift Off:

The Literacy Lift Off intensive Reading and Writing programme is continuing in Miss Dolan’s 1st class next week. Every child will bring home a new book each night (including Friday) and parents are asked to read this book with their child.

Attendance:

  • The Education Welfare Officer (E.W.O) has organised another attendance clinic for Feb 5th. Parents of pupils who have missed 10 or more days have been asked to attend. Please ensure your child has good attendance throughout the year.

Internet Safety Talk:

Sincere thanks to Jeremy Pagden who provided Internet Safety talks to all the children from 1st class up to 6th class, as well as their parents. The talks were incredibly informative and eye-opening!

Enrolments for September 2020:

  • The Open Night for parents of children due to start school in September 2020 will take place on Thursday February 6th at 8pm in the school hall. Enrolment Forms will be handed out to parents at the open night. Completed forms should then be returned to the school by Friday February 21st
  • Enrolment forms for the Boys National School were handed out to 1st class boys, a few weeks ago. Please complete the forms and return them to the Boys National School as soon as possible, if you have not done so already.

Confirmation Programme:

  • Service of Light for Confirmation children on Thursday, January 30th at 7pm.
  • Reconciliation for Confirmation girls on Friday February 14th from 6-9pm.
  • Confirmation for 6th class girls will take place on Saturday, February 15th at 2.30pm.

All of these services will take place in Athenry church.

General Reminders:

  • Punctuality: The staff of Scoil Chroí Naofa consider punctuality to be of paramount importance. Please ensure that your child is in school by 8.50am (at the latest) to avoid constant disruption to morning prayers and to the beginning of the school day for teachers. Roll call is taken in the early morning, every day.
  • School Uniform: Your co-operation to ensure that your child wears the full school uniform every day is most appreciated. Please remember to label your child’s uniform and all their belongings.
  • Head Lice: An incident of head lice has been reported in Miss Alani’s Senior Infants. Please check your child’s hair regularly and treat immediately, if necessary. Long hair should be tied back.

  • Credit Union Table Quiz: Clarin College on Sunday February 2nd at 2pm
  • Book Fair: Annual book fair with Tara Book Company Mon Feb 10th to Fri Feb 14th.
  • Mid-Term Break is from Mon Feb 17th to Fri Feb 21st. Children have a full school day on Friday Feb 14th.
  • Cash for Clobber collection booked for Tuesday March 3rd.
  • First Communion: Saturday May 23rd at 12 noon

  • Mr Hanley is offering Sports Club to Senior Infant children on Mondays
  • Ms Alani is offering Art Club to 1st class children on Tuesdays
  • Miss Feeney is offering Gaeilge Club to 2nd & 3rd class children on Tuesdays
  • Mrs Murray is offering Spanish Club to 3rd & 4th class children on Tuesdays
  • Mr Naughton is offering Guitar Club to 5th & 6th class children on Tuesdays
  • Mr Hanley is coaching Quiz Club for 5th & 6th class children on Wednesdays
