On Monday Mr. Hanley’s class went on their School Fun Day to the Athenry Heritage Centre and King Johns Castle.
In the Heritage Centre the children first had an opportunity to dress up in Medieval costumes and learn all about Athenry’s history and the story of those who founded the town. They also learned a little bit about what life would have been like for people who lived in the medieval period.
Later they also had a chance to try their hand at archery and to race each other around a maze. This was really fun and it seems we have many natural archers in the class!
After lunch we went to Athenry Castle and learned all about the different features of a 13th century Norman castle and also had a chance to explore.
We ended the day with a visit to the playground. It was a fun day indeed!
