For Science Week Mr. Hanley’s First Class carried out some experiments with water. Our main experiment was to see what types of materials float and could we manipulate certain materials to see if changing their shape would help or hinder them floating.
We did this using playdough, which doesn’t normally float in water, it’s too heavy. However if you reshape the playdough, (flatten it out, make sides and create a boat shape) it does float. Some were even able to carry some passengers!
One important lesson we did learn was that playdough is not a very water friendly material, most of our boats fell apart in the water and the playdough was too sticky! Next time we will try plasticine and see if it is any better. We had loads of fun however!
