Students’ Council Easter Newsletter
We would like to update you on recent activities and recent events in SCN…!
The Book Fair visited our school and we all dressed up as our favourite character at the end of Book Fair week.
The sixth class debating team competed in round two of the Sister de Lourdes Debating Competition against Doorus National School. The motion for debate was “Media is a leading cause of violence in today’s society”.
In February all children took part in Food Dudes and we all had the opportunity to taste lovely fruit and vegetables. We were rewarded with green and pink lunch boxes so that we can bring in our own fruit and vegetables as part of our daily lunch.
Seachtain na Gaeilge:
During the week of the 9th March, we celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge in our school. The Students Council organised games of bingo through the medium of Irish in each class and also taught the brush dance to all children in the school during their PE time. We enjoyed lots of other activities too during Seachtain na Gaeilge, in particular Tráth na gCeist and the Siamsa/Concert where some of the teachers put on a drama of Cinnín Óir agus na Trí Bhéar.
St Patrick’s Day Parade:
Our School Band led the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Athenry on the 17th of March. The weather was fantastic and all the girls performed beautifully.
The children in Ms Monaghan’s, Mrs Monson’s and Mrs Murray’s class had a Rugby Blitz last Thursday the 19th March. After a few weeks of training it was super to put our skills into action. All the children had a great time.
Confirmation and First Confession:
6th class made their Confirmation on February 28th and 2nd class celebrated their First Confession on March 19th.
