Dear Parents Issue: 19 10th March 2015
The staff are currently implementing phase two of the Food Dudes Programme under the guidance of the co-ordinator Mrs Hennessy and her class (the Healthy School Committee). Green and pink lunch boxes have been given to all children for their fruit and veg. They will be rewarded with certificates of achievement for bringing in and eating fruit and vegetables from home as part of their daily lunch diet. The children are really enjoying this programme and having a lot of fun.
The Green School Committee wish to thank all of you who supported the Cash for Clobber two bag challenge. We will receive a cheque for €350.
Seachtain na Gaeilge is being celebrated nationwide this week. The following are a list of some of the activities that are taking place through the medium of Irish: Assembly every morning, Daily Diary, Brush, Wren & Ceili Dances, Daily News & Weather on Intercom, Irish Music over Intercom during lunch break, Stories, Poetry & Drama, Songs (Amhrán na bhFiann), Spelling Bee, King or Queen of the Tables, Maths Trails, Nature Walk, Walk to the Park with Teddy, Walk to the Church to listen to the story of St. Patrick, Bingo, Table Quiz, variety of Games, watching TG4 Player, listening to Radio na Gaeltachta, Irish Speaker Awards, Siamsa on Friday (Concert). Children may come to school on Friday dressed in Green, White & Orange colours.
Bully 4u is providing a bullying workshop for the senior classes tomorrow, Wednesday, the 11th of March during the school day. They will also provide an Information Evening for parents on Bullying and Cyber Bullying at 8pm. These sessions have proved extremely popular throughout the country.
Mr. Wallace and Mrs. Hallissey have selected the following teams to take part in the Tráth na gCeist (Table Quiz through the medium of Irish) which will take place in the Temperance Hall, Loughrea this Thursday, the 12th of March during school hours: Ciara, Amy, Amy, Shandreya, Christabel, Lauren, Giovana and Kayla.
Michelle Hanley, Nutritionist & Juice Therapist will provide a Nutritional Workshop to children in the four senior classes this Thursday, the 12th of March. Many thanks to the Parents Council for financing this workshop.
Mr. Wallace and Mrs. Hallissey have selected the following teams to participate in the Pioneer Table Quiz Competition which will take place in the Ard Rí Hotel Tuam this Friday, the 13th of March at 6pm; Ciara, Caitlyn, Amy, Shandreya, Christabel, Lauren, Giovana and Kayla.
John Morris Burke from the FAI will provide a 6 week Football Club to Mrs. Monson’s class on Fridays commencing Friday, the 13th of March during school hours. Please sign consent forms.
The children will have no school on Monday and Tuesday the 16th & 17th of March.
The Community Council has invited the Medieval Town Band to lead the St Patrick’s Day Parade and to perform a recital at the viewing stand. The parade will take place on Tuesday, the 17th of March, after the 11am mass. Children from 2nd to 6th class have worked very hard for this event, so we hope to see your support by being present on the day. Your co-operation in the following matters is an essential part of this day. All children in the band are requested:
- To meet in the school at 10.00am
- To bring their instruments
- To wear they hair in plaits, if possible
- To make sure they have comfortable shoes or runners (no boots or plimsolls)
- To wear two layers, vests or t-shirts under their band uniforms
- Children from 3rd up to 6th Class are to wear their navy tights.
- Second class will be provided with skin coloured tights.
The Transition Year students will teach two German lessons to the children in 6th class on Wednesday, the 18th & 25th of March.
The Galway Community Rugby Officer, Wendy Hickey and colleagues will organise a Rugby Blitz for the children in the senior classes on Thursday, the 19th of March.
The children in 2nd class will be making their First Confession on Thursday, the 19th of March at 6pm.
If you wish to order Confirmation Class Photo, please forward €20 by Friday the 20th of March.
The senior classes will participate again in the Spelling Bee Competition. The children are required to learn lists of spellings. The pupils in 5th class will compete with the pupils in 6th class. One child will represent the school at the County Spelling Bee Championship which will take place in the Salthill Hotel on Tuesday, the 24th of March at 11am.
The School Photographer will take family photos of junior infants and siblings along with class photos of junior infants, first class, first & second class and sixth class on Wednesday, the 25th of March.
