A very sincere thank you to all parents who were present at the Parents’ Council AGM last week and to those who sent their apologies. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, the 16th  of November at 8pm. If you could not attend the AGM and would like to become a member, please come to the meeting. All parents are welcome to attend any meeting during the year.

 

Cell EXPLORERS Team from NUI Galway Biochemistry Department are providing two Fantastic DNA Workshops to children in 5th and 6th classes on
Monday the 24th of October. Veasna Coffey (Ciara’s mum) will lead the visit.
Children who will be making their First Communion are invited to attend an Activity Workshop as part of the Do This In Memory Programme. Parents requested to sign the consent slip for the Programme & return to school by tomorrow Tues 24th.

 

Mr. Hanley, Mr. Wallace and Mrs. Hallissey have selected three teams to participate in the annual Athenry Library Quiz which will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, the 25th of October.

The Green School Committee wish to inform you that our first Park & Stride Day will take place this Tuesday the 25th of October from the car park beside Kenny Park at 8.50am.

Our first Park & Stride Day will take place tomorrow, Tuesday from the car park beside Kenny Park at 8.50am. Children are encouraged to wear their high-visibility vests or arm bands.  Ms O’Byrne’s class have been provided with high-viz vests & we are currently awaiting the order for Ms Sheridan’s class. Staff will be present at the venue from 8.30am. If for any reason you cannot drop off your child at Kenny Park, the doors of the school will be open at the normal time.

 

TY students from Coláiste an Eachréidh will continue to coach Spike Ball to 5th & 6th class on Tuesday.

 

Mr. Wallace has selected two teams to participate in the Cumann na mBunscoil Cross Country Championship which will take place on Wednesday the 26th in Renmore. A special thank you to the Parents’ Council for financing the bus.

 

Parents of sixth class girls are invited to attend an Information Open Night in Coláiste an Eachréidh on Wednesday the 26th at 7.30pm

 

Kim Somers, (mother of Chloe), Tutor of the Athenry Ultra Flex School of Dance will very kindly provide Dance Workshops for all the children based on the Halloween theme to include hip hop, free style and musical theatre on Thursday the 27th.

 

Mrs Hennessey’s Healthy School Committee are  hosting  a “Trick or Treat” event, Dress & Donate on Friday, the 28th in aid of Temple St. Children’s hospital, Dublin. Children may come to school dressed in Halloween costumes or in their ordinary clothes and can donate €1 or €2. All monies donated will go towards the purchase of critical Digital X-Ray equipment which plays an absolutely crucial life-saving role.

 

Gerry Spellman from the Galway GAA Coaching Committee will continue to assist the staff in coaching camogie/hurling to various classes every second Friday throughout the year. He has started coaching Mr. Wallace’s class. Next session will take place this Friday during school hours.

 

Owen Diviney as Athlete Mentor will provide the Sky Sports Living for Sport programme to 6th class again this year.  He will support them in a class project which will involve the whole school.  Last year 6th class taught and organised active fun activities to all the classes and incorporated them as stations on Sports Day. One station even included hot dogs and burgers for all the children.

 

Each family will receive an extract from our Whole School Self Evaluation Report this week. This report incorporates all activities of the Board of Management, Staff, Student Council, Parents’ Council, Green School Committee, Diversity Committee, Healthy School Committee, Active School Committee, Professional Development Courses, and all the activities that have taken place in the school from Junior Infants up to Sixth Class from September 2015 to June 2016 in the various curricular areas.

 

Children will have no school from Monday to Friday, the 31st October to the 4th November due to Mid Term Break. School will re-open on Monday the 7th of November.

 

The Green School Committee are planning a “Monster Cash for Clobber” for the 9th of November.  They are requesting all families do a big Tidy Up during the Halloween break. If you have any of the following unwanted items, please put them in refuse bags –  Good Quality Clothing, Shoes, Belts, Towels, Curtains, Bed linen, Handbags, etc. No duvets pillows or soiled items will be accepted. The school will receive €4 for each bag.

 

The staff and I wish to equip and develop our play corners. If parents or friends wish to kindly donate any items to the school such as Lego, Duplo, toys, books, educational games, construction toys, clothes for dressing up, items for imaginative play, etc, we would be most grateful. We are very grateful to parents who have donated items to equip our libraries and play corners.

 

The staff  welcome support from parents with the education of our children. If you have any skills that you wish to offer the school, e.g. Information Technology, Sport, Art, Music, Dance, Crochet, Embroidery, Sewing, Cooking, Baking, etc. Please contact Principal. Special thanks to parents who have already volunteered.

 

The Parents Council have signed our school up for the fund-raiser with www.designacard.ie again this year. Each child has been given the opportunity to design their own Christmas card. Their templates are currently with the printers. A sample of their designs will be sent home in November, giving you the option to purchase a pack of Christmas cards designed by your child. A portion of the sales price will come back to the school and be used by the Parents’ Council to fund buses, workshops, treats for different occasions etc.

 

 

 Diary Dates

  • Dentist visiting on Friday the 11th of November to check children in 2nd and 6th
  • MMR vaccine for Junior Infants on the 22nd & 23rd of November.
  • Lighting of the Christmas Tree on Friday the 2nd of December.
  • All classes will perform in our Gala Christmas Concert which will take place on the 13th, 14th & 15th of December. You will be notified which night your child/children will be performing.
  • Parent Teacher Meetings scheduled for the 25th & 26th of January 2017.
  • Confirmation on the 18th of February.
  • First Holy Communion on the 28th of May.
