Dear Parents Issue: 24 May 22nd 2018
Our “How long is Larry?” fundraiser is going from strength to strength. Last Friday, a member of the Parents’ Council, Eiranne Heffernan (Isobel & Isaac’s Mum) counted all the loose change that has been donated to date. The sum of €293.15 was collected. This is added to the €170 already collected giving a grand total to date of €463.15. So Larry has grown past the second, third & fourth markers and is on his way to reaching the fifth marker!!! The children were very excited to see him grow. Larry will keep moving up & out of the grass at every €100 interval. We cannot wait to see how long our new pet is!!
Yesterday morning, children from various classes were treated to a most enjoyable mini-concert from the RTE Lyric FM quartet. Check out the website for the photos!
Ms Tyrrell & Mr Hanley have selected a team to participate in the Cumann na mBunscoil Camogie Blitz in Ballindereen on Thursday May 24th. Please ensure the girls are wearing sun screen on the day. Many thanks to the Parents’ Council who will finance the bus.
For 4 days in June, 1600 athletes from all over Ireland will take part in the Special Olympics Ireland Games in Dublin. 222 of these athletes are from the Connaught region and 9 athletes are from the Skylark Centre here in Athenry. Miss Murray has been volunteering with Special Olympics Connaught for over 20 years and is Sports Co-ordinator for the Connaught team. Cathy Vaughan (mum of Harry & Ruby Dalton) and Sheila Bergin (mum of Aoife) both work with the people in the Skylark Centre. To show our support for the athletes, there will be a “Wear Your Jersey” fundraising day this Friday May 25th. The children can wear ANY sports jersey or their PE gear, if they don’t have a jersey and can give a €1 donation towards this worthy cause. The athletes and coaches will visit the school on Friday.
Please note that school is open on Friday May 25th. It is only the Boys School which closes to facilitate voting in the Referendum.
Third class will attend one hour Swimming Lessons for five days commencing on Monday May 28th. Please forward fee of €25 as soon as possible, if you have not already done so.
